Have you ever had the type of friend who loves you no matter what? I am lucky to have such a friend. Lori is going through alot in her life her husband has ALS. Its funny how when I am with her my faults are funny and I am not insecure about them...she makes me feel good about them... Her days are filled with taking care of her husband and her children, yet in the midst of all this she asked me what she could give to my 4loveofpink. She bought me enough gum for 20 baskets for the womens shelter! Even though this is a a difficult season in her life she is always there with a warm hug, a cup of coffee and laughter. I am a better person because of Lori.......I look forward to many more years of friendship....

I had a bone density scan done on Monday the appt was 45 minutes long. When I broke my leg they were concerned about me having osteoporosis ....as I am 39 years old I was very upset. I had to lay perfectly still on the table while the scanner went over my body... I never thought that at 39 years of age I would have to worry about this... twenty years from now ....OK that I can accept. I kept starring at the ceiling as the scanner went over me and sticking out from one of the ceiling tiles was a bright PINK ribbon.... it was meant to be. I stopped thinking about me and started to focus on the women who have breast cancer and other women I am trying to help through PINK. These women are strong and I am truely amazed by them.....

PINK or 4loveofpink is something I started to bring awareness to breast cancer and helping people in need at the same time- Donate a new unwrapped pink gift- drop off at Florentines in Kentwood ..I will be donating to Degage again....I would like to fill the baskets with spring items for the women......donate in memory or for someone you know with breast cancer.....

As I have been laying here with a broken leg I have been thinking of my spring PINK drive. I would love for more restaurants to be involved with donation drop-offs.

I broke my leg one week after my last post! I was taking my dog outside and I didnt see the ice.....down I went. This was my first broken anything and then to top that off I had to have surgery on the broken bone...and of course it was my first surgery. I do not like to be sick and layed up and this is going to be keeping me off my feet for quite awhile. It has been very strange (in a good way) to have neighbors ,friends and family bringing me food and visting me! I am more determined than ever to give out pink comfort baskets after I am all healed.

Degage

Amy, Doug, Megan,Bailey and I went to Degage last Tuesday night to drop off the baskets to the women. Degage is amazing! We (minus Doug) were able to bring the baskets up to the women. The women who run it are woderful, they had goodies and pedicures set up for the women. We were able to have our pictures taken with the women and the baskets! I cannot wait to start the spring drive for PINK.. I have big plans for PINK next year. I could not do it without each and everyone of you. THANKS

Degage and mittens

Today is the delivery day for Degage. We will be bringing 30 baskets to the women there. I also found five wonderful women to make mittens for PINK for next year. They make them as a group. I am excited about next year and I have big plans for PINK. Have a great holiday...Kelly

Making baskets

Amy and I started to put the baskets together for Degage on Friday night.. wow there was alot of PINK!!!! This morning we took our daughters Bailey and Megan and delivered one of the baskets to a homebound person and spent an hour visting with her. It is such a great feeling. I gave Jenn the baskets for the family dealing with cancer. She created paintings for the baskets . Jacque' Smith- Monje contacted me and asked if she could donate some of her products that have the pink breast cancer ribbon on them! She paints bowling pins with faces or the pink ribbon and her mother makes pins with the breast cancer ribbon on them. They made a huge donation. We will be raffling off the bowling pin.. its a real bowling pin painted white with the pink ribbon on it!! What a journey..

I was able to get 21 hats donated for the womens shelter! I need 30! This has been a wonderful journey and I am looking forward to helping alot more people next year. I plan on 3 big PINK events next year: spring/summer, breast cancer month and the winter/holidays. What started out six weeks ago is turning into a full-time job and I am loving it!!

As you may or may not know I DO NOT WEAR PINK!(its a redhead thing!) I will be wearing PINK when I make our deliveries..... it will be fun and for a good cause. I am in need of items for just the womens shelter such as gloves,scarves,hats and tolietry items and socks. Have a great Wednesday............

Eight West!

Being on eightwest was an amazing experience! I am happy that I was given the chance to help alot more people. The eightwest staff were warm and made the time fly by. I was able to bring my daughter Bailey with me and she was able to have her picture taken with them. Amy and I and will be making up baskets this weekend and baking cookies for the baskets! We are looking forward to spending time with our girls and delivering the baskets.

I am so excited I will be on eightwest on channel 8 talking about 4loveofpink! Eightwest contacted me and wanted to know if they could help and of course I said yes!! On another note we will be making deliveries to Degage ,it is a overnight shelter for women who are in need. We will need enough pink items to fill 30 baskets for these women. We will need pink gloves/mittens,scarves,hats,scarves and other items. I added a new drop-off location Vitales in Comstock. I love the fact that all three drop-off locations are local businesses. So now we have Florentines in Kentwood, Arenas Pizza in Rockford and Vitales in Comstock. I am still trying to find a location in Hudsonville/Grandville or Jenison area.

Amy and I are making our list of the people who are going to receive our baskets. We will be visting a nursing home,sending a package out to a mother daughter who are in a safe house, a father who was diagnosed with cancer again (he has a little girl,2 teens and his wife). We have several people in the community we will be delivering to as well. Please put your request in if you know of somebody who you think may benefit from with a little extra cheer. More donations and a wish

Somebody emailed me and asked if I could help a father and his family this holiday. He was diagnosed recently with cancer and they are in need of holiday cheer. I said no problem!! We are able to help the wife and their daughters but since we are collecting PINK items I need to come up with another way to help the father and son. I was thinking of gas giftcards due to the fact of the distance they will have to travel for cancer treatment. I got a call from my mom today and she told me of a friend who would like to donate pink items...she also said that this friend told other people and they want to help too!! I am so happy. My daughter and her friend have been making PINK bracelets with the words pink, hope and 4loveofpink...which my daughter told me stands for FLOP... that was a downer!!! I am not going to let this flop....just the opposite!!!! I do not wear pink nor have I ever due to the color of my red hair somehow pink and red just doesnt work for me! But I do love the color pink and I will be wearing pink when I deliver the baskets!!!!

The closer the deadline approaches the more excited I get! December 11th is the last day for donations and the 18th of December is the delivery date(pink day as I call it). If you know of someone that has a need let us know so we can add them to our donation list. I am looking forward to spending the time with family and friends putting the baskets together.

Items for PINK should be new and unwrapped!! We will be putting baskets together based on age and individual needs. The deadline for drop off is December 11th and we will be delivering baskets on the 18th of December. Drop offs can be made at Florentines in Kentwood and Arenas Pizza in Rockford. I watched the segment on eightwest about the need for donations for teens. I hope to have enough pink items donated to make up a basket for a teen. Well here we go!!! Several weeks ago I came up with an idea to get donations to help people...okay so your saying that's not a new idea! I know I know.... I thought why not make all the donations PINK..... the item would go to somebody in need and bring awareness to Breast Cancer...So I started with my facebook page using my status to let people know. I ended up starting 3 different pages before I finally got the one I wanted. I sent out message after message to people. I think I may have overloaded their inbox..but its for a good cause right??? I talked with a good friend of mine Amy and she came up with the logo! The name P.I.N.K providing pink items for needy kids morphed into not only needy kids but needy people. Amy had a wonderful idea to help the people who do not fit into the obvious need category. I thought this was a great idea as so many people have lost jobs. The more we talked the more ideas we came up with.. Senior citizens their need isn't always about money, their need might be companionship. I met a woman on eightwest grand rapids, Mi talk shows face book page who makes beautiful tutus for little girls! She offered to donate two pink tutus, hair bows and other items!! Wow! Her business is called Claires Bowtique. (notice the bow!) I have been going back and forth with the name P.I.N.K... I came up with the blog name 4 love of pink and I think I like that one!! We have two business's that offered to be a drop off location. Florentines in Kentwood, Mi and Arenas pizza in Rockford, Mi. Another friend of mine Jenn offered to paint pink pictures to donate! I found breast cancer bandanna and we lined baskets with them and filled them with pink things. Its been a great feeling helping others and not thinking of me all the time.
